Frequently Asked Questions
We know choosing the right gymnastics program comes with a lot of questions. Below you’ll find clear answers to the topics families ask about most.
General Information
What ages do you accept for gymnastics classes?
We offer programs for athletes starting at 20 months through the teenage years. Classes are grouped by age and developmental readiness to ensure instruction is safe, appropriate, and effective. In rare cases, competitive athletes may turn 18 during their final year of training and continue under existing program expectations.

Do you offer recreational, competitive, or both?
We offer both recreational and competitive programs, including Girls’ and Boys’ Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline. Recreational programs focus on skill development, confidence, and physical literacy, while competitive programs require higher commitment and are designed for athletes pursuing structured competition.
What makes IK Gymnastics different?
Our programs emphasize strong fundamentals, safety, emotional readiness, and long-term development. We believe athletes progress best through structured skill progressions and consistent expectations, without fear-based coaching. Our goal is to prepare athletes for future success — whether that future includes competitive gymnastics at IK Gymnastics, another club, or continued athletic growth elsewhere.
Is gymnastics safe for young children?
Yes. When taught properly, gymnastics is a safe and highly beneficial activity for young children. Our classes are age-appropriate, closely supervised, and designed with progressive skill development. Facilities are heavily matted, equipment is regularly inspected, and coaches follow structured lesson plans to ensure safety and consistency.

Do students need prior experience?
No. Beginner classes are designed for athletes with no prior experience.

Are boys and girls trained together?
Preschool-aged athletes often train together due to shared developmental goals. As athletes progress, boys’ and girls’ programs become more specialized and typically train separately.

Do you offer trial classes?
We do not offer trial classes for recreational programs due to limited class capacity and fixed coach-to-student ratios. Families are welcome to observe classes from designated viewing areas. Competitive programs may include a trial training period only if an athlete is formally invited.

Programs & Progression

How do I know which class is right for my child?
Placement is based on age, experience, skill level, and readiness. Initial placement recommendations are provided by the front desk, and ongoing placement is evaluated by coaches once an athlete is enrolled.

When do gymnasts move up levels?
Advancement is based on skill mastery, consistency, confidence, and coach evaluation, not age alone. Evaluations are held twice a year throughout the school year season, and families are notified by the front desk when an athlete is ready to advance. However, if a coach deems a child is ready to advance they do not have to wait for the next evaluation to advance, they will be advanced immediately.
Do you offer beginner options for older kids or teens?
Yes. We offer beginner-friendly classes for older athletes starting gymnastics later. Placement is based on skill level rather than age to support confidence and appropriate progression. While teens are welcome to enroll for our classes, please take into consideration that our age enrollment is typically 5-11yrs old.

Competitive Team Programs

How does team placement work?
Competitive team placement is by invitation only. Athletes are evaluated over time based on skill readiness, consistency, focus, emotional maturity, attendance, and overall fit. Team space is limited, and invitations are extended only when readiness and availability align.

Do recreational gymnasts automatically move onto team?
No. Progressing through recreational levels does not guarantee or automatically lead to team placement. All team invitations are intentional and based on long-term readiness.

What is the goal of recreational programs if team is limited?
Our recreational and developmental programs are designed to build strong fundamentals that support an athletic path. While some athletes may be invited to team, others benefit equally from the physical, mental, and confidence-building aspects of gymnastics that transfer to many sports.

Who should I contact about team questions?
Families who believe their child may already meet competitive readiness criteria may contact the front desk at info@ikgym.com with their child’s name, age, current class, and training history. Individual timelines or predictions are not provided.

Scheduling & Enrollment

How do I register?
Registration is completed online through our website.

Does my enrollment roll over indefinitely?
Enrollment is rolling month-to-month only during the school year season. School year season enrollments do not roll over from one school year to the other. Summer enrollment requires a separate enrollment.

Can I choose days and times?
Yes. Families select from available class days and times during registration.

What happens if a class is full?
Families may join a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, an email notification is sent, and families have 24 to 48 hours to respond.

Tuition & Policies

How is tuition structured?
Regular Season tuition is billed monthly based on the number of class dates in that month. Summer programs are billed separately and are due in full at registration.

No. Tuition and registration fees are non-refundable.

Can enrollment be paused?
No. Enrollment cannot be paused only cancelled.
